Four years into the campaign for a South Shore CBA, the Jackson Park Housing Pilot -- combining parts of the previously introduced South Shore Housing Preservation Ordinance & 63rd and Blackstone Ordinance -- was approved by the Chicago City Council Housing Committee, sponsored by Ald. Desmon Yancy, Ald. William Hall, and Ald. Jeanette Taylor. On September 25, 2025, Chicago City Council passed the Jackson Park Housing Pilot, which meets many of the Obama CBA demands.
This is a monumental step in the fight against displacement and a testament of the power of community and organizing. This ordinance is going to positively impact the neighborhoods of Woodlawn, Greater Grand Crossing and South Shore.
The fight for a CBA continues, to cover all of South Shore, to provide more resources for homeowners to repair their homes, and to protect renters with an Office of a Tenant Advocate, Right to Counsel, and a Rental Registry.
